What is PRP Under EyeInjections?
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) under eye injections are a cosmetic treatment designed to rejuvenate the skin around the eyes. This procedure involves drawing a small amount of the patient’s blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and
then injecting this platelet-rich plasma into the under-eye area.
Who is it suitable for?
PRP under eye injections are suitable for individuals who have:
- Dark circles under the eyes
- Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
- Puffiness or hollow spaces under the eyes
- Uneven skin tone and texture in the under-eye area
Who is it NOT suitable for?
- Bleeding disorders: Conditions that affect blood clotting can increase the risk of complications.
- Autoimmune diseases: These conditions can interfere with the body’s healing process and response to the treatment.
- Active acne or infections: Any active skin infections or severe acne in the treatment area can increase the risk of adverse reactions.
- Blood-thinning medications: Individuals on medications that thin the blood may experience increased bruising and should consult with their doctor before considering PRP.
What to expect during the procedure?
- Blood Draw: A small amount of your blood is drawn, usually from your arm.
- Centrifugation: The blood is placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the other components.
- Numbing: Topical anaesthetic cream is applied under the eyes for 10 - 15minutes.
- Injection: The PRP is then injected into the skin under your eyes using a fine needle. The entire process usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes.
What is the down time?
Most people can return to their normal activities within a day or two. However, it’s recommended to avoid strenuous exercise and direct sun exposure for at least 48 hours after the treatment. Some mild swelling or bruising may occur but typically resolves within a few days.
How long until you see the effects?
You may start to see some improvement within a few days due to initial swelling, but the full effects of PRP injections usually become noticeable after a few weeks. The collagen production and tissue regeneration stimulated by the PRP continue to improve the skin’s appearance over the following months.
How many sessions are recommended?
For optimal results, it is generally recommended to undergo a series of 2 - 3 PRP sessions, spaced about 4- 6 weeks apart. Some individuals may require additional sessions depending on their specific needs and desired outcomes. Maintenance treatments every 6 - 12 months can help sustain the results.
What preparations are recommended beforehand?
To avoid disappointment, we encourage that you have a consultation with our doctors before booking for a procedure.
General pre-treatment advice include:
Avoid Blood Thinners: Refrain from taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), and other NSAIDs for at least a week before the procedure. This also includes certain supplements like vitamin E, fish oil, flaxseed oil, and turmeric.
No Alcohol or Smoking: Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 7 days prior to your appointment. Both can increase the risk of bruising and interfere with the healing process.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment. Proper hydration can help improve the quality of the plasma and the overall outcome of the procedure.
Healthy Diet: Eat a nutritious meal before your appointment to ensure your body is well-nourished and ready for the procedure.
Clean Skin: On the day of the procedure, arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, lotions, or any other products.
Consult Your Doctor: If you are on any medications or have any health concerns, discuss them with your doctor to ensure they won’t interfere with the procedure.
