What is SkinPen® Microneedling?

SkinPen® Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that involves pricking the skin with tiny, sterilised needles. This process creates micro punctures that stimulate the body’s natural healing response, leading to increased production of collagen and elastin, resulting in improved skin texture, tone, reducing pores, reduce sunspots and other hyperpigmentations.

Who is it suitable for?

SkinPen® Microneedling is safe and suitable for a wide range of individuals, particularly those interested in
- improving skin texture and appearance
- flattening acne scars
- reduce fine lines
- reduce sunspots/hyperpigmented lesions
- minimise pore size
- reduce nasolabial folds

Who is it NOT suitable for?

- Under 22 years of age
- Active skin conditions affecting significant part of face
- Keloid scarring
- Certain autoimmune diseases
- Bleeding disorders or certain blood thinning medications
- Immunosuppressed (consult our doctor first before booking for treatment)
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding

What to expect during the procedure?

1. Cleaning: using normal saline, Aspect Dr deep clean and alcohol wipes
2. Numbing: Topical anaesthetic cream is applied to treatment area for 10-15 minutes
3. Microneedling: application of glide gel and use of skinpen to create micro-injuries
4. (optional) application of biocellulose masque to improve overall effect and cool down

What is the down time?

Most people can return to their normal activities after 24 to 72 hours. After the procedure, it is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise and direct sun exposure for at least 48 hours after the treatment. Some mild swelling or bruising may occur but typically resolves within a few days.

How long until you see the effects?

You can start to see the effects of microneedling within about a week after the procedure. Initially, you might notice some skin tightening and a brighter complexion. However, for more significant improvements, such as reduced scarring, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation, it typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.

How many sessions are recommended?

For optimal results, a series of 3 to 6 sessions is typically recommended. These sessions are usually spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. The exact number of sessions you might need can vary based on your specific skin concerns and goals. For example, treating acne scars or deeper wrinkles might require more sessions compared to general skin rejuvenation.
